GOZO CRUISE LINER MOORING

11 Dec 2023

GOZO CRUISE LINER MOORING

Gozo's tourist industry was being held back by the lack of a suitable berth for Cruise Liners to visit the Island. In order to tap in to this lucrative market without the major expense and time required to design and building a full scale liner berth, it was proposed that a suitable mooring be install to enable visiting Cruise Liners to safely moor. There passengers could then be taken ashore by small boat to enjoy the local sites and bring a much needed boost to the local tourist industry.

Malta Maritime awarded the contract for the supply and installation of the mooring system to a local company Pantheon Ship Supplies. Norfolk Marine Ltd were tasked with the assembly and installation of the mooring system in 90m of water in the bay of Xlendi.

The triple anchor system was assembled on the deck of a 30m anchor handling tug and all shackles, spilt links and fixings inspected by a marine surveyor prior to departure from Malta to the site.

The mooring system was then deployed and the anchors “pulled in” to the required weight. With the 8m diameter buoy in the correct position the lights were fitted and an inspection carried out by Norfolk Marines ROV team with a full report being passed to the client.
